Public policies directed towards the woman begin with an anatomical pathological and regulative approach to feminine nature. The formulation of concepts about gender and health allied to the women’s social movement are progressively modifying our understanding on their health-care needs. This paper describes this process and analyzes why certain goals with regard to granting to women the right of integrated health assistance were not yet achieved.
