Introduction: Screening for precancerous lesions has been proposed as a preventive measure for anal cancer in at-risk populations. Objective: To conduct a rapid literature review to gather evidence on screening in men who have sex with men (MSM). Methods: A rapid review was conducted using the PubMed® platform from October to November 2022. Results: Ten studies were selected for analysis (n=7,694). Study designs included three prospective cohorts, four retrospective cohorts, two case-control studies, and one cross-sectional study, conducted in five countries. Conclusions: The studies reviewed highlight the importance of anal cytology as a screening tool for anal cancer in MSM living with HIV, as well as the need for further research to elucidate its efficacy in other subpopulations and HIV-negative MSM.
