Introduction: Perinatal depression is prevalent during pregnancy and the postpartum period and generates biopsychosocial repercussions and negative implications for maternal-fetal outcomes. Among the various risk factors for the development of depression is childhood trauma. Objective: The aim of this study is to identify the frequency of perinatal depression and sociodemographic and psychopathological aspects of a sample of pregnant patients attended at the UBS 12 in Samambaia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 51 pregnant women attended by Team No. 19 at UBS 12 in Samambaia in the second half of 2023. The instruments used to evaluate their characteristics were the EPDS (Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale), sociodemographic questionnaires, the CTQ (Childhood Trauma Questionnaire), the Maternal-Fetal Attachment Scale and the MINI (Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview). The data were analyzed using the SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) (version 20), with descriptive statistics and Fisher and Wilcoxon tests for quantitative variables, with a significance level of 95% (p<0.05). Results: A prevalence of perinatal depression was observed similar to that evidenced in the literature, being associated with the desire for pregnancy, marital status, social support and number of offspring. The average age was 28.51 years. 100.0% of patients screened positive for depression by the EPDS reported moderate to severe childhood trauma, with a higher prevalence of emotional abuse (85.7%) and emotional neglect (78.6%). Two-thirds of pregnant women with medium or minimal attachment according to the Maternal-Fetal Attachment Scale were diagnosed with current depression. Conclusions: The findings suggest a correlation between weak social support and greater susceptibility to the development of depression in this population. A high prevalence of childhood trauma and lower maternal-fetal attachment was found in pregnant women with perinatal depression.
